Creating My College Magazine Contents Page

I created my college magazine contents page on Publisher as I thought this would be the best option. I started by adding the title to the page which I kept to the same font as the cover to continue the house style.

I then added pictures to the contents page to fill some space and add some detail. I think it makes the magazine more appealing because there is something to look at rather than just writing.

So the magazine looks more professional, I added the same college logo that's on the cover to the bottom right corner.

I then added two sub-heading to make the contents page easier to read. I think it makes the page look more sophisticated when the stories are split into categories.

Lastly, I added in the stories with their page numbers. I gave each one a short and snappy little title so the readers know what to expect from each article. I put these titles in red so they stand out to the reader. I also added page numbers to the pictures so the reader knows what image is connected to what story.

This is my final contents page:

I think if I had more time and was to re-do this project, I would take more time taking my pictures as I did those very last minute. I would also like to take more time in creating the cover and contents page as a whole, I would have liked to have used Photoshop so I could get the more professional look I wanted. But because this is a magazine for students, I think the colours, layout and overall look are suitable for both genders.

Creating My College Magazine Cover

To start making the college magazine, I looked at the draft I created to see where I wanted things to go on the cover.

I then took the picture that I wanted on my front cover and edited it to suit what I wanted.

I wanted the background gone so it was just the image of Daisy. I used the background eraser tool on Adobe Photoshop to get rid of the background so it was transparent.

I then made the background of my cover on Publisher blue to give my magazine an eye-catching feature and then added the newly edited photo to the page.

I added a title to my magazine, taking inspiration from Company Magazine's title. I made it black and bold to stand out and put the main word "college" larger then the word "magazine" smaller to make it look more interesting and modern. Having the main image overlapping the title slightly makes the magazine look more authentic.

I added the college logo in the corner to make the magazine look more professional. Again, I made the background transparent which would give the magazine a more professional look.

I thought the masthead looked slightly boring so I added a pattern on to the 'O' to make it look more interesting.

Because I thought the front still slightly lacked something eye-catching and interesting, I added a boarder, again taking inspiration from Company.

I then added all the sell lines and made the main sell line bigger because that's the story that's the most important.

Lastly, I added a barcode so the magazine seems more authentic.

And this is my finished cover for my college magazine:

After analysing the results from the questionnaire, I discovered that it would be females more interested by a college magazine than males so I took this into account when creating the magazine. Having a female cover star will intrigue and inspire more females but the colour scheme that I chose can suit both genders in the chances a male would be interested. I kept the front cover fairly simple with one main image and didn't want to clutter it too much with a lot of sell-lines. I think this picture gives off the positive vibe of a happy student therefore intriguing students to buy it.

College Magazine Cover Layout Ideas

Here are 3 design ideas for the cover of my college magazine. These will help me determine where everything will go on my cover to get the best look for my magazine.

1.

2.

3.

Out of the 3, I prefer the second one. It's more spread out evenly and will overall be more eye-catching. I'll use this design for my college magazine cover and will go for a blue house style because that's a colour that will attract both male and female.
